Bypass scheme case study

Grumpy dormouse!

CEC provided technical input for another consultancy on a 6.5km bypass scheme in mid-Wales, upgrading part of the Welsh Trunk Road network.

We provided advice on the scope of protected species surveys, in particular with regard to bats and dormice, and undertook some of the surveys for these species. We were able to use the results of the surveys to help refine the design of the scheme to minimise ecological impacts. We were also asked to prepare the ecology chapter of the Environmental Statement for the scheme on behalf of our client. This covered all ecological issues relevant to the scheme, including potential impacts of the scheme on all notable or protected habitats, plants and animals. The Environmental Statement was published in November 2014, and we have continued to assist our client in preparation of evidence and other information in advance of the public inquiry for the scheme.
